Coast Guard Responds to Panama City Plane Crash

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard, along with several local agencies, are responding to a plane crash off the coast of Panama City, Fla.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Ala. was notified of a plane crash one-quarter mile south of the Panama City pier with 2 pepople on board. Sector Mobile launched a 25-foot response boat crew from Station Panama City, a HH-65C rescue helicopter crew from Air Station New Orleans and an HU-25B rescue jet crew from Aviation Training Center Mobile.

A good samaritian rescued a female occupant of the plane and brought her to shore where she was transported to a local hospital. Local authorities have recovered the second occupant of the plane. As of 5:00 p.m., all Coast Guard planes and boats have returned to their stations.
