Coast Guard responds to capsized vessel near Yaquina Bay, Oregon

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard transported three people to shore after their vessel capsized approximately 12 miles southwest of Yaquina Bay, Ore., Thursday.

Group North Bend, Ore., received a call from a 25-foot pleasure vessel at approximately 10:05 a.m., stating that it was taking on water.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Facility Newport, Ore., a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew and a 25-foot response boat crew from Station Yaquina Bay responded.

The Coast Guard arrived on scene to find the 25-foot pleasure vessel had capsized and all three persons aboard had been rescued from the water by Good Samaritans aboard the vessel Striper.

The Coast Guard transferred the three boaters to the response boat and transported them to South Beach, Ore., near Newport.

The motor lifeboat crew remained on scene to mark the partially submerged vessel, making it visible to other mariners.

No injuries were reported and all three people were wearing lifejackets.
