Coast Guard Responds to 2 Separate Cliff Accidents

SEATTLE – Coast Guard rescue helicopter crews from Air Station’s Astoria and North Bend responded to two separate incidents involving individuals who had fallen from cliffs today.

Tillamook County Dispatch received a report of a hunter who had fallen from a steep cliff near Garibaldi, Ore., around 2:30 p.m. and requested agency assistance.

A Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria responded to the scene. The injured hunter was then airlifted to an awaiting ambulance at Air Station Astoria, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Coos County Dispatch received a report of a girl who had fallen from a cliff at Sunset Bay State Park near North Bend, Ore., around 6:30 p.m. The initial emergency responders were unable to reach the girl and requested Coast Guard assistance.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Air Station North Bend responded to the scene. The injured girl was airlifted to an awaiting ambulance at Air Station North Bend. She was then transported to Bay Area Hospital in North Bend, Ore.
