Coast Guard responding to the report of two missing crab fishermen

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard is responding to the report of two missing crab fishermen near Bellingham, Washington.

Coast Guard Group Port Angeles received a call at 8 p.m. from the owner of the 27-foot tribal crabbing vessel, Racine, stating the crabbers had left for a test run checking gear and pots at 5 p.m., and had not returned.

The Coast Guard launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, and the cutters Adelie and Cuttyhunk, both homeported in Port Angeles.

The helicopter crew spotted the Racine anchored near Eliza Island, Wash., in Bellingham Bay and the crew reported no injuries and that the vessel was immobile.

The crew aboard the cutter Adelie is in the process of transferring the two men from the Racine to safety at Bellingham.
