Coast Guard responding to 4 people on sinking boat off Ponte Vedra, Fla.

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Coast Guard boat and helicopter crews are en route to rescue four people aboard a sinking shrimp boat about 2 miles east of Ponte Vedra, Fla., Tuesday morning.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center learned of the incident at 6:12 a.m. when the crew used the vessel’s VHF-FM marine radio to report their boat was taking on water and in danger of sinking.

Watchstanders immediately directed the launch of a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Mayport in Atlantic Beach, Fla., and a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Ga.

The identities of the fishermen are currently unknown.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue is also responding.
