Coast Guard rescues two people off Ponce Inlet

Jacksonville, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued two people at approximately 1:20 p.m. Sunday after their 15-foot boat capsized approximately 500-yards off Ponce Inlet, Fla.

Rescued are Ben Brisell, 20, and Tyler Williams, 17, of Daytona Beach, Fla.

A 47-foot motor life boat crew from Coast Guard Station Ponce Inlet rescued the two men after their boat capsized while being towed to shore by a good Samaritan. The boat had reportedly experienced engine failure and began to take on water.

Both men were wearing lifejackets and were in good condition at the time of the rescue.

The boat was unable to be salvaged and sank.

The Coast Guard urges all boaters to always wear a life jacket while on the water. Wearing a life jacket will greatly increase your chance of survival during an emergency.
