Coast Guard Rescues Two near Bayfield, Wisconsin

BAYFIELD, Wis. — The Coast Guard rescued two male canoeists after their boat capsized at approximately 4:00 p.m. today.

Coast Guard Station Bayfield received notification after a good samaritan witnessed the two men capsize their canoe. The good samaritan walked into the nearby ranger station, then the park service relayed the information to the Coast Guard.

After approximately thirty minutes, the Station Bayfield crew was able to pull the two men on-board its small boat. The crew performed CPR on one of the hypothermic men because he was unresponsive until they were both transferred to awaiting Emergency Medical Services onshore.

The unresponsive man was life-flighted to Duluth Hospital, and he is in critical condition. The other male was transferred to a local Bayfield hospital.
