Coast Guard rescues two from overturned boat

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued two people from the water at about 3 p.m. after their boat overturned approximately 30 miles west of Egmont Key, Fla.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg were notified of a SPOT GPS Messenger distress call at about 2:10 p.m. and immediately launched a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew to investigate.

The helicopter crew arrived on-scene and found George Tsitsikronis, 48, from Tampa, Fla., and Jeff Burke, 44, from Seminole, Fla., clinging to the overturned hull of a 26-foot Seacat.

There were both hoisted safely from the water and were taken to Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater.

There were no injuries reported.
