Coast Guard rescues two from cliff near Tillamook Head – video

ASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard rescued a man and woman from a cliff at Tillamook Head, near Astoria, Ore., Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a report at 8:35 a.m., from Seaside, Ore., emergency dispatch of a female who fell while hiking in an area known as Tillamook Head.

An MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew, from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, was launched to the scene, as was a High Angle Rescue Team from Seaside Fire Department.

A Coast Guard rescue swimmer was lowered, secured the woman in a harness, then hoisted her into the helicopter. She was transported to the Astoria Airport where local emergency medical personnel treated her for minor scrapes and bruises before being released.

The helicopter returned to the scene and rescued the male hiker and transported him to the Seaside Airport. He had no injuries to report.
