Coast Guard rescues three stranded kayakers in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coast Guard rescued three stranded kayakers in Hilton Head Island, S.C., Wednesday.

Coast Guard operational watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Charleston received report from a 911-relay call at approximately 9:14 p.m., that the kayakers were stranded in the mud.

The Department of Natural Resources and local sheriff’s office rescue crews located the kayakers but could not reach them due to the water depth.

A Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston MH-65 Dolphin air rescue crew were diverted and arrived on scene at approximately 9:30 p.m., to hoist the kayakers.

The three kayakers were transported without injury to the Hilton Head Airport.
