Coast Guard Rescues Three From Grounded Vessel
NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard rescued three people from a 16 foot pleasure craft near Grand Isle early this morning.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans received a call at 4:00 a.m. with a report of two red flares spotted southwest of Grand Isle.
Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to investigate the source of the red flares. The helicopter crew arrived on scene, conducted a partial search of the area and discovered three men around a bonfire. The vessel the men were riding in had run aground on a small beach earlier in the evening. The men started a fire and launched the flares to attract the attention of rescue crews. The helicopter crew hoisted the three men and transported them safely to Exxon Grand Isle.
