Coast Guard Rescues Three from Grounded Boat

November 25 Houston, TXThe Coast Guard rescued three people this evening after their pontoon boat ran aground east of Atkinson Island, in Trinity Bay, Texas.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call from the stranded men at about 2 p.m. today. The men reported that their boat was stuck in less than six inches of water. They tried walking to shore but began sinking in the mud and returned to their boat.

Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched a rescue helicopter crew at about 8 p.m., and arrived on scene 20 minutes later. The crew then hoisted the three men off their boat and flew them to La Porte Municipal Airport.

Hypothermia was a major concern because the men’s clothes were wet from the attempted walk to shore and they had no protection from the weather.
