Coast Guard Rescues Navy Pilot

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard rescued a Navy Pilot approximately 83 miles Southeast of Cape Henry, Va., today.

A Navy FA-18 airplane based out of Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Va., lost communications with an E2-C Hawkeye aircraft. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., launched an HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew at approximately 4:54 p.m. after the Navy had requested assistance. The Coast Guard flight crew located and rescued the pilot in the water at about 6:01 p.m.

The Navy pilot was recovered in stable condition and was transferred to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
