Coast Guard rescues kitesurfer near Manitowoc Yacht Club

9th Coast Guard District NewsCLEVELAND – A U.S. Coast Guard boatcrew from Station Two Rivers, Wis., rescued a person in the water near the Manitowoc Yacht Club, today at about 4:30 p.m., CDT.

The man, who was reportedly in his early forties, was wearing a wetsuit with installed flotation devices.

The communications watchstander at Station Two Rivers received notification of a kitesurfer in distress from the Manitowoc Police Department at about 4 p.m., CDT.

A rescue boatcrew immediately launched aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small and found the man clinging to his kite. The man was brought aboard the RB-S and taken to the Manitowoc Marina in good condition. He did not need assistance from Emergency Medical Services.

The Coast Guard encourages all mariners to wear life jackets at all times when on the water, and to carry a communications device, such as a marine-band radio, while boating.
