Coast Guard rescues four people from sinking pontoon boat

YANKEENTOWN, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued four boaters in distress 15 miles southwest of Crystal River, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Yankeetown received a call at approximately 8:41 p.m., from a woman stating her that her friends’ 24-foot pontoon was taking on water and that they were in need of assistance.

A Coast Guard Station Yankeetown 25-foot small response boat crew conducting training 15-miles south was diverted and immediately sent to the scene.

The crew was able to pull all four boaters safely off the pontoon before it sank.

All four boaters were taken to Halfway Ramp on shore.

No medical attention was necessary.
