Coast Guard rescues fallen hiker

SEATTLE - A Coast Guard Air Station North Bend rescue helicopter crew conducted an airlift of an injured hiker today around 6 p.m. at Harris Beach State Park near Brookings, Ore.

Brookings Fire Rescue requested Coast Guard assistance after responding to a male hiker who had fallen from a cliff, and was stranded between the cliff face and a boulder.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was in the area and immediately responded to the scene. The injured hiker was airlifted from the cliff by a rescue swimmer and transported to Brookings Airport to an awaiting ambulance.

The injured hiker was transferred by ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, Calif.
