Coast Guard Rescues Crew of Sunken Vessel

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard rescued three fishermen after their boat sank near Zarembo Island in the Sumner Straight.The North Pacific Search and Rescue Coordination Center (NPSARCC) received a mayday call from the fishing vessel Memories at 11:15 am today reporting the boat was taking on water. The three crew members advised they were abandoning ship and entering their life raft. They were rescued at 1:24 p.m.

The NPSARCC directed Wrangell Search and Rescue to the scene. A Wrangell SAR aircraft monitored the life raft until a Coast Guard rescue helicopter from Sitka performed the rescue.

The crewmen were taken to the Wrangell Clinic for evaluation.
