Coast Guard Rescues 70 Year Old Fisherman

GALVESTON, Texas – The Coast Guard rescued a 70-year-old fisherman from his grounded boat in Jones Lake near Tiki Island, Texas, this afternoon.

This morning a Coast Guard watchstander from Station Galveston received a call from a police department dispatcher in Bayou Vista, Texas, reporting a possible missing fisherman. The fisherman, a Sugarland resident, had departed Fat Boy Marina on Tiki Island Thursday morning to go fishing for three or four hours.

This morning a police officer located the fisherman’s truck and trailer still at the Fat Boys Marina and contacted the Coast Guard for assistance. An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Houston was dispatched to search for the missing fisherman.

The helicopter crew located the fisherman in his 22-foot boat stranded in shallow waters on Jones Lake at approximately 12:30 p.m. The fisherman was safely rescued and taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. The fisherman was suffering from hypothermia.
