Coast Guard rescues 2 from Watts Island, Md.

BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard rescued two people that were disabled and overdue on Watts Island in Pocomoke Sound Saturday.

Rescued were Billy Crockett, 41, and Laura Crockett, 40.

Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders received notification of an overdue 18-foot boat with two people on board from a family member.

Sector Baltimore dispatched a response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Crisfield, Md., and a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J.

The rescue helicopter crew located the two people on Watts Island and hoisted them into the helicopter. They were flown to the Crisfield airport where they were met by crew members from Station Crisfield. Station Crisfield’s crew transported the people back to Station Crisfield where they were met by family members.

The Coast Guard urges mariners to file a detailed float plan with friends, family, or your local marina. A detailed float plan should include the number of people on your vessel, your intended destination and estimated time of return.
