Coast Guard rescues 2 after boat capsizes in San Antonio Bay near Port Lavaca

PORT O’CONNOR, Texas —The Coast Guard rescued two people after their catamaran capsized in San Antonio Bay near Port Lavaca, Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a report at approximately 6 p.m., that two adults were in the water after their vessel capsized approximately one mile from shore in San Antonio Bay.

A 25-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor and an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m. The Dolphin crew used night-vision goggles to direct the RBM crew to the people in distress. The RBM crew transported them to awaiting emergency medical services at the Swan Point boat ramp in San Antonio Bay.

Neither persons in the water were wearing immersion suits of life jackets. Their condition is unknown.

“The Coast Guard would like to remind mariners to take precautions while boating and always have personal floatation devices and proper safety gear on board,” said Lt. Mary Arvidson, public affairs officer at Sector Corpus Christi.
