Coast Guard rescue crews medevac a 13-year-old from the Martha’s Vineyard to Boston

Northeast Atlantic Coast Guard NewsBOSTON — Coast Guard rescue crews medically evacuated a 13-year-old boy from Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., at 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 1st District command center were notified at noon by Martha’s Vineyard Hospital medical staff that a 13-year-old boy was suffering from a severe groin injury and they had no available medical flight crew to transport the boy to a mainland hospital.

A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched and safely transported the injured boy to Massachusetts General Hospital.

“We are glad we were able to provide transportation and get this individual to get the proper medical attention,” Tim Carton, a 1st District command duty officer.
