Coast Guard Repatriates 93 Cubans, Arrests 4 Smugglers

 MIAMI – The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Kodiak Island repatriated 93 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabanas, Cuba, Thursday and has transfered four suspected smugglers to Customs and Border Protection officials.

The Coast Guard Cutter Drummond interdicted a go-fast boat carrying 14 migrants and two suspected smugglers 57 miles south of Key West, Fla., Sunday. The two suspected smugglers were identified by Customs and Border Protection as Cuban Nationals with parolee status in the United States.

Coast Guard crews intercepted 45 migrants throughout five different cases June 29.

Five migrants on a rustic vessel were located by the Coast Guard Cutter Tornado crew 15 miles northwest of Cay Sal Banks, Bahamas.

The crew of the motor vessel, Eagle Tome, located six migrants 310 miles southwest of Fort Myers, Fla., and were transferred to the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence.

The crew of the motor vessel, Ual Texas, located 16 migrants 315 miles west of Key West. The Ual Texas proceeded toward the Eagle Tome and was also met by the cutter Confidence.

Fourteen migrants on a rustic vessel were located by the Coast Guard Cutter Key Biscayne about 30 miles southwest of Marquesas, Fla.

Four migrants on a rustic vessel were located by the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence about 30 miles southwest of Marquesas.

On June 28, the Coast Guard Cutter Reliance spotted a go-fast about 34 miles southeast of Key West. An HU-25 Falcon jet also spotted the go-fast during a law enforcement patrol and helped guide the Reliance, the Cutter Diligence and a 33-foot small boat from Station Key West. The crew of the 33-foot small boat was able to stop the vessel carrying 34 migrants and two suspected smugglers. The suspected smugglers were transferred to CBP and identified as Cuban Nationals with parolee status in the United States.

Once on board Coast Guard cutters, all migrants receive food, water and any necessary medical attention.

The Coast Guard Cutter Kodiak Island, Drummond and Key Biscayne are 110-foot patrol boats.
The Coast Guard Cutter Confidence, Diligence and Reliance are 210-foot medium-endurance vessels.
The Coast Guard Cutter Tornado is a 179-foot patrol boat.
