Coast Guard repatriates 25 Haitian migrants

MIAMI — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Mohawk repatriated 25 Haitian migrants to Cap Haitien, Haiti, Wednesday.

A Coast Guard Air Station Miami aircrew spotted a sail freighter with migrants aboard north of Haiti Monday.

The Mohawk crew, along with the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence, arrived on scene and transferred the 21 males and four females aboard the cutter Mohawk.

Once aboard a Coast Guard cutter, migrants are given food, water, shelter and basic medical care.

The cutter Mohawk is a 270-foot medium-endurance cutter homeported in Key West, Fla.

The cutter Confidence is a 210-foot medium-endurance cutter homeported in Port Canaveral, Fla.
