Coast Guard recovers body from the water near Berkeley Marina

SAN FRANCISCO – The body of a man was recovered today from the water near the Berkeley Marina. A boater spotted the body and contacted the Coast Guard. A boat crew from Station San Francisco recovered the body and turned it over to the Berkley Fire Department.

The Coast Guard is waiting for identification of the body to determine if it is connected with a missing person case which prompted a search last week. In that case, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco received a missing person report from the Richmond Police Department after they discovered a 20 foot vessel washed ashore Aug. 24, near the Brickyard Cove in Richmond, Calif.

Last week’s search effort included a Coast Guard helicopter and rescue boat. The search was suspended when no sign of the missing man was found.
