Coast Guard participates in 22nd annual marine firefighting symposium

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard is participating in the 22nd Annual Robert E. Rumens Marine Firefighting Symposium, hosted by the Virginia Port Authority and the Virginia Maritime Association from Monday to Saturday.

The symposium includes classroom sessions on ship construction, correct ship boarding procedure, shipboard firefighting training scenarios at the Naval Shipboard Firefighting School and training scenarios aboard U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration ships.  More than 100 members from local, regional and governmental firefighters are particpating in the event, including fire departments from New York and approximately a dozen foreign nationals from Canada, Singapore and the Netherlands.
