Coast Guard opens ports in the U.S. Virgin Islands and northern coast of Puerto Rico following Tropical Storm Bertha

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Coast Guard opened the ports and set Port Condition Four in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the northern coast of Puerto Rico at 6p.m. Saturday following the passing of Tropical Storm Bertha through the area.

During Port Condition Four, the ports may resume normal operations, including waterfront facility and vessel transits, subject to prudent seamanship and safe working practices.

The eastern and southern ports of Puerto Rico to include Yabucoa, Guayama, Salinas/Aguirre, Ponce, Tallaboa, Guanica, Guayanilla and Mayaguez will remain closed under Port Condtion ZULU until the completion of Coast Guard port assessments and final determination from the Coast Guard Captain of the Port.

Coast Guard Port Assessment Teams continue to monitor the weather and stand ready to conduct port assessments in the eastern and southern ports of Puerto Rico as soon as the weather permits.
