Coast Guard Investigates Bomb Threat on Carnival Cruise Ship

Long Beach, Calif – Coast Guard Los Angeles joined Long Beach Police Department, Long Beach Harbor Patrol, and Customs and Border Protection in responding to a bomb threat made against the Carnival cruise ship Paradise Friday afternoon.

The Coast Guard received the report Friday afternoon at 2:20 pm. The threat was phoned into the Carnival cruise line reservation center and reported to the Coast Guard by company security officials.

Cruise ship Carnival Paradise were following its comprehensive security plan to include security sweeps of the ship and reinspection of all cargo and passenger luggage.

Security sweeps of cruise ship Carnival Paradise were completed at 5 pm Friday evening with nothing found. The sweep included 100% search of critical compartments and passenger cabins.

The cruise ship is expected to depart and continue on its originally planned voyage. Coast Guard armed security boats will accompany the cruise ship from its berth through its transit in the Port of Long Beach.
