Coast Guard medically evacuates man near Wrightsville Beach, NC

5th Coast Guard District NewsPORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 54-year-old man from a 20-foot boat approximately 150 yards away from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., Tuesday night.

The victim’s girlfriend called New Hanover 911 dispatch and requested help. The dispatcher then contacted Station Wrightsville Beach watchstanders at approximately 10 p.m.

Station Wrightsville Beach dispatched a 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew and was on scene within minutes. Three crewmembers boarded the vessel, two started CPR while the third drove the vessel back to the station. Waiting emergency medical services took the man to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
