Coast Guard Medically Evacuates Kayaker Suffering from Seizures

MIAMI — Coast Guard crewmembers medically evacuated a 53-year-old woman who was kayaking in the vicinity of Mule Key, Fla., Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Key West received notification from a good Samaritan, aboard sailing vessel Danger, of a woman suffering from seizures during a kayaking tour.

A Coast Guard Station Key West rescue boat was launched to recover the woman and transport her to the station where emergency medical services where waiting.

“Good Samaritans play an important role by acting as the Coast Guard’s eyes and ears while on scene,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Scott W. Fischer, a boatswains mate stationed in Key West, Fla.
