Coast Guard medically evacuates contractor from Midway

HONOLULU — U.S. Coast Guard air crewmembers transferred a 39-year-old man from Midway Island to Oahu early this morning.

Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center personnel in Honolulu received a call 10:45 a.m. Tuesday from a physician on Midway, concerning a contractor who was experiencing chest pains.

A Coast Guard C-130 search plane crew from Air Station Barbers Point along with a Disaster Medical Assist Team flew to Midway and picked up the ill man at approximately 9:25 p.m. Tuesday. Air crewmembers then transported the man to Air Station Barbers Point, where emergency medical services personnel met the plane and then escorted the man to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu at 3:40 a.m.
