Coast Guard medically evacuates 76-year-old man from cruise ship

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 76-year-old male from a cruise ship approximately 76 miles southwest of Tampa Bay, Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a call at 1:03 a.m. from a crewmember on the cruise ship Radiance of the Seas, requesting medical assistance for William Nicol, an American 76-year-old male passenger, who was experiencing hernia-like symptoms.

At 2:05 am. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew. The crew arrived on scene at 2:46 a.m., safely hoisted the ill man, and transported him to Tampa General Hospital.
