Coast Guard medically evacuates 73-year-old man from fishing vessel in Charleston, S.C.

CHARLESTON, S. C. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 73-year-old male from a 23-foot pleasure craft approximately 53-miles southeast of Charleston, S.C., Wednesday.

Operational watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Charleston received a call at 12:44 p.m., Wednesday, from the owner of the vessel requesting medical assistance for a passenger who was experiencing stroke-like symptoms.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston diverted an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston. The crew arrived on scene at 1:42 p.m., safely hoisted the passenger and transported him to the Medical University of South Carolina.
