Coast Guard medevacs woman from fishing boat near Fort Macon, NC

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 63-year-old woman Tuesday from a 70-foot fishing boat approximately 17 miles southeast of Fort Macon, N.C.

The captain of the fishing vessel Capt. Stacy IV contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 9:30 a.m. via VHF-FM channel 16 reporting that a woman aboard his boat was experiencing difficulty breathing and requested assistance.

Sector North Carolina watchstanders dispatched a crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon to assist.

The Coast Guard crew arrived on scene at approximately 10 a.m. transferred the woman and six family members from the Capt. Stacy IV to the MLB and took them to Station Fort Macon where they were met by awaiting Atlantic Beach emergency medical services personnel.

EMS personnel took the woman to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, N.C.
