Coast Guard medevacs Vietnamese fisherman with heart attack symptoms in Gulf of Mexico

D8 LogoHOUSTON — A Vietnamese fisherman was medevaced after experiencing heart attack symptoms Thursday night, about 25 miles south of Rockefeller State Wildlife Refuge and Game Preserve in Grand Chenier, Louisiana.

A crewman on the boat made a mayday call at 8:30 p.m. and reported the need for assistance to Coast Guard watchstanders. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew flew out to medevac the man and an Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama, HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew provided long-range communication support.

The helicopter arrived on scene at 10:23 p.m., hoisted the man aboard and took him to awaiting EMS at Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles in stable condition.
