Coast Guard medevacs man south of Jones Beach, New York

NEW YORK – A Coast Guard boatcrew medically evacuated a 50-year-old man suffering from chest pains Wednesday night south of Jones Beach, New York.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a distress call on channel-16 stating a man aboard a 25-foot boat was experiencing chest pains.

The other person aboard who made the call stated they were not able to operate the vessel and were beginning to suffer from seasickness.

The command center launched a rescue crew from Coast Guard  Station Jones Beach aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat. They also issued an Urgent Marine Assistance Request Broadcast to mariners in the area who could potentially help.

The crew arrived on scene at approximately 7:45 p.m. They brought the man to the station, where he was transferred to EMS and then on to South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside, New York.

The man’s condition is unknown.
