Coast Guard medevacs man near Portsmouth, NH

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a crewman from the tug Navigator in the vicinity of Gunboat Shoals near Portsmouth, N.H., at approximately 6:15 a.m., Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor, N.H., received a report at 5:42 a.m. from the tug Navigator that a crew member had fractured his leg and needed medical attention.

A Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor 47-foot Motor Life Boat rescue crew immediately launched and safely transported the injured crewmember to awaiting EMS at Station Portsmouth Harbor. He was then taken by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth.

In 2012, units across the 1st Coast Guard District, which extends from New Jersey to the Canadian border, conducted more than 2,500 search and rescue cases and rescued more than 300 people.
