Coast Guard Medevacs Man From Tenakee Springs

SITKA, Alaska – An HH-60J “Jayhawk” helicopter was launched from Air Station Sitka just before 9 p.m. Saturday to medevac a 52- year-old man suffering from a diving injury in Tenakee Springs.

The man reportedly experienced an equipment malfunction while diving in the Tenakee area, and was forced to surface without adhering to his planned decompression schedule.

The rescue helicopter landed on a dock-side helipad to transfer the patient from Tenakee emergency medical services (EMS), and then transported him to a waiting medical team in Juneau.

The patient was delivered in stable condition to the dive chamber for more advanced care.
