Coast Guard medevacs man from fishing vessel Pacific Voyager

SAN DIEGO — The crew of a Coast Guard MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter based in San Diego medically evacuated a 53-year-old man from the 55-foot fishing vessel Pacific Voyager 150 miles south of San Diego at 5:30 p.m today.

The crew of the fishing vessel reported to Coast Guard Sector San Diego that the passenger was in distress at 4:30 p.m. The flight surgeon determined that a medevac was recommended and the helicopter was launched.

The crew hoisted the man and transported him to Sector San Diego, where he was transferred to Emergency Medical Service personnel.

“Mild weather conditions and the fishing vessel crew’s professionalism helped us get the man to medical attention quickly and safely,” said Lt. j.g. Amanda Sardone, one of the pilots who performed the medevac.

The man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif. for treatment.
