Coast Guard medevacs man from cruise ship

 HOUSTON – The Coast Guard medevaced a 49-year-old man from a cruise ship approximately eight miles south of the Galveston, Texas today.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call at 5: 38 p.m. from the captain of the Carnival Conquest, reporting a passenger in need of immediate medical attention. The man had reportedly collapsed on deck and was unresponsive.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat crew from Station Galveston to assist. The rescue boat crew arrived and safely transported the man to Sector Field Office Galveston, where emergency medical personnel were waiting.

He was then transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

His condition is unknown at the time.
