Coast Guard medevacs injured oyster boat crewman

NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard medevaced a 37-year-old man from a vessel in Breton Sound, 15 miles east of Port Sulphur this afternoon.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Station Venice received a radio call at 11:15 a.m. from the fishing vessel Lady Jennifer, reporting that a crewmember had fallen and injured himself. The injured man, Donahue Bronson, of Crawford, Fla., was reported to have a lower back/hip injury.

An HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Air Station New Orleans and a boat crew from Station Venice were dispatched, arriving on scene simultaneously. A corpsman from Station Venice and the helicopter rescue swimmer transferred the patient safely to the Coast Guard boat, where he was then . safely hoisted into the helicopter and transported to awaiting emergency medical personnel at the Louisiana Superdome.
