Coast Guard medevacs injured fisherman off VA coast

Mid Atlantic Coast Guard News PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard responded to a report of an injured boater approximately 60 miles east of Chincoteague, Va., Wednesday.

At approximately 3:50 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders received a report from the fishing vessel Potluck of a crewman who was severely injured while working lines.

Sector Hampton Roads issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City in Elizabeth City, N.C.

The Jayhawk crew hoisted the man and took him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va.
