Coast Guard medevacs injured boater

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Ocracoke, N.C., responded to a report of an injured boater on Monday.

The Coast Guard was notified at 7:23 p.m. that a 57 year-old woman had suffered an injury sustained from a fall while aboard the sail boat Meander approximately 14 miles off the coast of West Pamlico Sound.

Station Ocracoke crewmembers arrived on scene at approximately 8 p.m. and transported the injured boater ashore where medical personnel were standing by.

The Coast Guard strongly urges all mariners to wear their lifejackets while on the water, have a working radio onboard their vessel to contact help in the event of an emergency and to file a float plan with friends family and their local marina listing the number of people onboard the vessel, their intended destination and estimated time of return.
