Coast Guard Medevacs Injured ATV Rider

McKinleyville, Calif. — The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 17-year-old-male yesterday evening from the Humboldt County Forest.

Group Air Station Humboldt Bay received a call from the Blue Lake Fire Department requesting helicopter assistance to hoist an individual who had been involved in a 35 mile-per-hour head-on collision while engaged in riding his four wheeler just north of the town of Blue Lake. An HH65 Dolphin helicopter was launched at approximately 7:00p.m. and arrived on scene minutes later. The helicopter remained at 130′ while hoisting the injured 17-year-old out of the forest.

He was flown to St. Joseph’s hospital and is in stable condition.
