Coast Guard Medevacs Fisherman

BOSTON – A Coast Guard helicopter crew airlifted a man from his vessel more than 100 nautical miles east of Provincetown, Mass., Monday evening after he complained of acute abdominal distress.

The 75-foot trawler, Vila De Ilhavo, contacted Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England about 5:33 p.m. requesting the 66-year-old man be medically evacuated.

An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod launched about 6:30 p.m. An HU-25 Falcon jet also launched to provide cover due to the extreme offshore distance. The helicopter arrived on scene about 7:45 p.m. and airlifted the patient. They safely transferred him to an awaiting ambulance at Hyannis airport about 9:09 p.m., where he was listed in stable condition.
