Coast Guard medevacs cruise ship Carnival Elation passenger near Southwest Pass

NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans-based Coast Guard small boatcrew medevaced a 66-year-old Carnival Elation passenger near Southwest Pass, Friday.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a report the passenger had symptoms of deep vein thrombosis in her right leg. A Coast Guard Station Venice 45-foot Response Boat — Medium crew was directed to launch and arrived on scene at 4:50 a.m.

The boatcrew safely transported the passenger to awaiting emergency medical services in Plaquemines Parish for further medical care.

She was listed in stable condition.
