Coast Guard medevacs camper from remote island off Southern California coast

VENTURA Calif. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 28-year-old female camper from Anacapa Island off the coast of Southern California on Saturday, November 29, 2008. The woman was reported to be suffering from severe abdominal pains.

Air Station Los Angeles launched an HH-65C helicopter rescue crew to Medevac the camper. The rescue helicopter crew arrived on-scene and safely Medevaced the camper to Los Angeles International Airport where she was transferred to waiting paramedics in stable condition. The paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital. The condition of the woman is unknown.

Anacapa Island is a small island located about 14 miles off the coast of Ventura, California and is part of the Channel Islands National Park.
