SAN DIEGO — The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated the master of a 1,092-foot tanker approximately 30 miles west of Solana Beach, Sunday afternoon.

At 1:17 p.m., the chief mate of the tanker Genmar Zeus, a Marshall Island-flagged oil tanker, contacted the Coast Guard on VHF-FM radio channel 16, requesting assistance for the master who was suffering from constant and severe stomach pain and vomiting.

Coast Guard Sector San Diego dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew who hoisted the 37-year-old man from the ship and transported him back to Sector.

Local emergency service personnel met the aircrew and transported the ailing man to a local hospital.
