SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard medevaced an 81-year-old man from Catalina Island Sunday.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., the LA Medical Alert System notified Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders of a male who displayed symptoms of a heart attack and requested a medevac.

After consulting with a Coast Guard flight surgeon, Coast Guard Forward Operating Base Point Mugu launched an MH-65 helicopter crew to assist.

The helicopter arrived on scene, embarked the man and transported him to Torrance Memorial Medical Center where he was reported to be in stable condition.
