Coast Guard medevacs 56-year-old man west of Point Loma

SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medevaced a 56-year-old man approximately 55 miles west of Point Loma, San Diego, Thursday.

At approximately noon Thursday, the crew of the fishing vessel Intrepid contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego’s Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders to report a passenger was experiencing heart attack-like symptoms.

A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched to medically evacuate the man.

The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene, hoisted the passenger and returned to Sector San Diego at approximately 2 p.m. Emergency medical services then transported him to UC San Diego Medical Center, in Hillcrest.

His condition is unknown.
