Coast Guard medevacs 38-year-old man 65 miles south of Shinnecock, N.Y.

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard medevaced a 38-year-old man from a fishing vessel 65 miles south of Shinnecock, N.Y., Tuesday.

The Coast Guard Sector Long Island Command Center in New Haven, Conn., received a call for help stating that a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel Patriots was reportedly having difficulty breathing, experiencing pain in his extremities and coldness in his feet.

The command center recommended a medevac, launched a helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., and directed the fishing vessel to proceed north toward Long Island to close the distance. The rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene and safely hoisted the patient aboard. He was then transported to Stony Brook Hospital on Long Island in stable condition.

Patriots is home ported in New Bedford, Mass.
